LIFELINE
© Susan R L Turner 2014
I saw her crying her tears into the river
I saw her swimming in those tears
I called out
Be careful or you'll surely drown
I said wait there and I will save you
I saw her calling out
Waving from the ocean
I said
If you had only held on to my hand
She said
I don't want to be saved
I want to go swimming in the ocean
And if I get taken by a shark
Then that must be my fate
I said wait
I will save you
I said wait
I will save you
I'll be your lifeline
Hold on to me
I'll be your lifeline
And save you from the sea
I'll be your lifeline
Hold on to me
I'll be your lifeline
And save you from the sea
I'll be your lifeline
And save you from the sea
Now she was the type of girl who had
A fatalistic streak
She left you chewing on your fingernails
And hanging on the edge of your seat
You could expect the unexpected
And forget the introspective
The future she neglected
For the moment she did seek
Life is cheap
But I will save you
Life is cheap
But I will save you

The Grass Is Greener

THE GRASS IS GREENER
© Susan R L Turner 2014
Now you're picking up the pieces
Of a life that fell to pieces
Came tumbling down in one big crash
And it shattered by your feet
Now you wonder if there is any good
Left in the world when it all fell apart for you
Well I tell you there is one thing
I think that you and I should do
Take me where
The grass is greener
Take me where
Oh the air is cleaner
You're busting through my door now
And you're kicking over tables
You're smashing all the crockery
And you're letting out frustration
Now if only you would listen to me
If only you'd take heed
Well I know that your world is all tumbling
But I think you should listen to me
Come on let's go where we can make a new start
We can build a place where we both can live
In peace and harmony and all things nice
And we'll leave the past behind
Come on throw it all
Won't you leave it behind
We can start a new life
And who knows what we can find
Throw it all don't you wait a second more
I think we both should open a brand new door

BETTER GET A LIFE
© Susan R L Turner 2014
Don’t let them take you down
Don’t let them mess you round
I wanted to hide away
Didn't want to show you the tears you gave
They'll take you for granted
Push you around sometimes
I tell you
I don't deserve this behaviour
And I'm not going to take it no
So baby
If I see you in the street tomorrow
Don't want to see your face no more
Don't want to see you looking at me
Cause I don't want to see your face no more
Don't want to see you ever again boy
Don't even want to see you now
If I see you in the street oh baby
I don't want to see your race again no
Well you broke my heart
Now baby baby I don't want to see your face again
Don't ever come walking around my street
Don't want to see you at my window
Won't let you in boy
Don't want to see your face again
Yeah I used to be sweet and innocent
Just like the girl next door
Yeah yeah that was me
But it changed suddenly everything is different
Now I know just what you have done to me
You made my heart bleed
You made me feel sad
You broke my heart when you know that I love you so
You know that I'd never let you go
Cause you mean the world to me
But baby you can't treat me like this
Nowhere I can go
Did you think I was going to wait around
Well I’m telling you straight now that I
Don’t want to see your face again
I ought to walk away
Did you want did you want me to stay
Do you
Come on now I’m shaking
But doing fine oh fine
I'm making my move now
You got me you got me
Anticipating
What your move's going to be baby
Never know
Oh I can't live like that
Don't spin me no lines
Don't spin me no
Don't don't don't spin me no lines
Did you think that I'd stay around boy
Did you think that I'd waste my time
Did you think when you broke my heart
That I'd only fall down and I'd never get back up
Forget it babe
Not going to let you put me down
Now how will you feel when you know that I'm not around
Is that when you're going to miss me
Is that when you're going to kiss me
Is that when
Is that when you'll wonder
Wonder what went wrong
Well you better get a life baby
Cause I never want
No I never want
Don't want to see your face again

BETTER THIS WAY
© Susan R L Turner 2014
Well it seems you've got some trouble in your life
Did you find the world outside to be unkind
You told me that you had to leave to find yourself
But the only self you found you left behind
Are you better without me baby
That's what I need to know
Are you better without my love
Well it seems that you can't look me in the eye
And you wear a face that I can't recognise
Did you lose your soul somewhere in the wilderness
Or did you fill the space you needed by your side
Are you better without me baby
That's what I need to know
Are you better without my love
You should know
Now I'm not used to feeling hurt by the truth
And I've been living with just memories of you
And I miss every little thing that you do
But I can't live here in the shadow of you
Well it seems you've got some trouble in your life
Are you better this way

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRL IN WORLD
© Susan R L Turner 2014
She stepped out of the trees
And she looked into the hearts of everyone
She was a veritable angel
And she took over the hearts of everyone
She had the most beautiful smile
I did ever see
And she touched the world
With her ever grace and charm
She's the most beautiful girl in the world
Where the river meets the sea
She said
Follow follow me there
And you will see
Come and walk through the trees
Come and breathe the clean fresh air
She said
Where the river runs into the sea
Is where we all should be
Where the river runs into the sea
That's where we all should be
(Where we all should be go back to nature)
She said
Leave your Learjet
Well fly across the sea
Come back to nature with me
The green trees and the flowing river
And the grace of the sun
She was the most beautiful
Girl in the world
She charmed everyone with her smile
And her glowing heart
(Sunny smile across the world)
She was the most beautiful girl
(Her name was Nature)
The most beautiful girl in the world

TELLING YOU GOODBYE
© Susan R L Turner 2014
I was born and raised in this town
And it's a part of me
The faces are familiar
I will miss my friends and family
I’ve got your photograph in my suitcase
I’ll sleep with it next to me
I need to see the world that’s outside you
Wherever that leads me
I said don't be late
I'm catching the plane at eight
And I don't want to leave without
Telling you goodbye
Will you take another lover
While I'm away
Will it be that we discover
That everything has changed
So wish me luck and be gone
A million miles away
The time wilt pass so soon you'll see
And I’ll be with you again
I said don't be late
I'm catching the plane at eight
And I don't want to leave without
Telling you goodbye
If you wait too long
I’ll be here and gone
And I don't want to leave without
Telling you goodbye

NO WIN SITUATION
© Susan R L Turner 2014
No win situation
I should go home now shouldn't I
Got no conversation
Forgotten how to socialise
No win situation
And I've got everything to lose
Lose my grip on everything
Even you
To ease my pain I'd sniff glue but I've got clag
Hope I become famous before I'm an old bag
No win situation
My mood sends me down into some pit
Well I scramble and I'm bleeding
I was asking now I'm pleading
Can't get out of it
So I should join the circus of fools just like me
Give me a count and I'll play tambourine
Cause I drown in my self pity
Let me tell you it's not pretty
I quite despise me
No win situation
No win

BREAKFAST IN BED
© Susan R L Turner 2014
Laid back and lazy
Too cosy to get out of bed
I think about you only
And you know how I feel
Now you know I feel it too
That the best love is a love that's true
And I will be the one who is there
To bring you breakfast in bed
Put your head on my shoulder
I remember everything you said
As clear as if it were yesterday
And now I know just what you meant
It’s got to be all or nothing
We've got to take the time to listen to each other
Let's respect it not neglect it baby
We've got to take the time to listen
Don't worry baby everything is alright
Don't worry baby I will be right by
Put your head on my shoulder now
Don't worry about a thing
Cause when times get rough
You know I'll be there to bring you
Breakfast in bed

PETTICOAT IN THE RAIN
© Susan R L Turner 2014
With great ease and repose
She entered through the out door
She graced the room with a face like the sun
(With a face like the sun
And the night had just begun)
A window wide open blew a breeze down the hallway
Blowing stars into her eyes
She said
I feel reckless my mind has gone astray
When I hear music it carries me away
(Takes her to another world)
She said
I'm dreaming I can see it all so clear
Then she went dancing
In her petticoat in the rain
In the rain
Stars in her eyes as she danced in the night
No inhibitions no trouble in mind
In the rain in her petticoat
A dreamy dreamy girl
Drifting along in a fantasy world
All the people there couldn't believe their eyes
They looked at her and laughed
And some cried
They thought she must be insane
She said
I feel reckless
All I really want to do
Is dance in the rain in my petticoat tonight
I could fly across the ocean
Fly across the sea
Fly across the ocean
Try to keep up with me
I can see it all she said
She had stars in her eyes
Oh in her eyes
With great ease and repose
She entered through the out door

TALK ABOUT ME
© Susan R L Turner 2014
They were talking in the back room
They were talking about you
But what would they know
I said don't you be so cruel
You wouldn't like it
If you were in his shoes
Talk about me why don't you
Stab me in the back for a while
You can play all your silly games
If that's how you want to spend your time
They were laughing in the front room
They were saying that you're just a fool
But what would they know
What would they know
They were saying that you're just a clown
They were saying they don't like you hanging 'round
But what would they know

CHECKING NEWSPAPERS
© Susan R L Turner 2014
I'm calling Ray
I haven't seen him for so long
And I hope nothing has gone wrong
What else could
Last time I saw him
He was facing charges of a drug related kind
And the judge said he just couldn't decide his fate
Now I'm checking newspapers to see if he's still alive
I'm calling Ray
I'm almost scared to hear the news
You must beware of the road you choose
And where it leads
Last time I saw him
He was in the depths of depression and fear inside
He said life no longer seemed worthwhile
It has no meaning
I’m checking newspapers to see if he's still alive
I’m checking newspapers to see if he's still alive
We stood up in a court of law
And we told them what we felt and what we thought
The judge said he couldn't decide his fate
But that was many weeks ago
And where he is now God only knows
I only hope that he's on a better path
